Pintle Mount

A pintle hitch connection functions similarly to a standard tow mount, except in these setups a lunette ring is attached to your trailer by a specialized fixture and secured into the jaws with a safety pin instead of clamped directly to the post or ball. This prevents the weight of the trailer from being directly transferred to the mount when it flexes during normal travel and provides your trailer with a much greater range of motion in general.

Pintle Hitch VS Ball Hitch

Why use a pintle hitch over a regular tow mount? These couplers, (also known as military hitches,) have an immediate advantage over traditional ball-type towing in sheer strength, with tongue weight (TW) and gross trailer weight (GTW) capacities that can easily measure in tens of thousands of pounds. Meanwhile, the extra leeway provided by the tow ring and jaws’ ability to move freely makes this system perfect for off-roading or hauling over the rough, uneven terrain common at drop-off points and on commercial lots.
